    Teacher as Researcher-
    Taking Action Research to Task

When Katrina Shaw decided it was time to integrate an Internet-based project into her American history course, she knew she wanted to find a way to measure whether students were truly benefiting from the time they spent in front of the computer.

    Phenomenology as Research Method

    Phenomenology as Research Method
    Beverley Campbell,
    Victoria University of Technology

    Outline of the paper
This paper is an account, the interweaving, of the narrative of the writing of my own thesis using a phenomenological approach, with my developing interest in phenomenology as research method. My study of personal transformation provides the context for these reflections on phenomenology as research method. I have spoken in other forums about the content of the research; in this paper I want to do something different. The focus for this paper is on the possibilities and dilemmas for higher degree studies encountered as I learnt to use a phenomenological approach.

Analytic Induction as a Qualitative Research Method of Analysis- Donald E. Ratcliff

Analytic induction is a method of data analysis described by Florian Znaniecki (1934) who named the method and systematized many of the associated ideas. However Znaniecki was careful to note that the essence of analytic induction has been used repeatedly throughout history (pp. 236-237), particularly by scientists in the physical sciences (he cites numerous examples from physics and biology). That essence involves " . . . inducing laws from a deep analysis of experimentally isolated instances" (p. 237).

    The scientific research method

    The scientific research method
What is the purpose of the Scientific Method?

The scientific method is the means by which researchers are able to make conclusive statements about their studies with a minimum of bias. The interpretation of data, for example the result of a new drug study, can be laden with bias. The researcher often has a personal stakes in the results of his work. As any skilled debater knows, just about any opinion can be justified and presented as fact. In order to minimize the influence of personal stakes and biased opinions, a standard method of testing a hypothesis is expected to be used by all members of the scientific community.

The Case Study as a Research Method
Case study research excels at bringing us to an understanding of a complex issue or object and can extend experience or add strength to what is already known through previous research. Click on Read more to access the full article
