Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following courses scheduled to start in January 2009.

In addition, students will have to follow a ‘core’ course in Theory of Education.

 

Minimum Admission Requirements:

(i)                 5 Credits at SC/GCE ‘O’ level including English Language;

(ii)                2 ‘A’ Levels with at least one of them being relevant to the Main Field of Study applied for;

 or acceptable alternative qualifications;

(iii)               A degree relevant to the Main Field of Study offered

 

Duration of Course

One year (2 Semesters)

Course fee

A fee of Rs 15,000/- for the whole course is payable in two installments at the beginning of each semester (excluding library & Union fees).

 

2.         TEACHER'S DIPLOMA - SECONDARY (FULL-TIME)

Duration of Course

Two Years (full-time) (4 semesters)

 

 

Course Fee:

A fee of Rs12,500/- is payable at the beginning of each year.

3.       TEACHER’S CERTIFICATE (PRE-PRIMARY) (PART-TIME)

 

(Open to In-service Pre-primary School Teachers practising in a registered early childhood setting).

 

Minimum Admission Requirements

 

Certificate of Proficiency in Early Childhood Education from MIE

 

or

 

Alternative acceptable qualifications

 

Duration of Course

 

One academic year (2 Semesters) on a part-time basis.

 

Note: Applicants are advised that the course work assumes that they have   

         adequate access to an early childhood setting throughout its duration.

 

Registration fee

A fee of Rs1,000/- for the whole course is payable in one installment at the beginning of the semester.

 

 

4.       EDUCATOR’S LICENSE (PART-TIME)

Minimum Admission Requirements:

 

(i)                      Cambridge School Certificate with Credit in at least five subjects including English Language obtained at not more than two sittings;

 

(ii)                    A Cambridge Higher School Certificate or Passes in at least two subjects obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Advanced Level”; and

 

(iii)                  A degree relevant to the Main field of Study offered from a recognized university.

 

Duration of Course

 

One Semester on a Part-Time basis

 

The course will comprise two modules (Basics in Curriculum and Pedagogy I & II) and a placement of two weeks in a Secondary School.

 

Course fee

A fee of Rs 6,000/ for the whole course is payable at the beginning of the semester (excluding library).

Note:

a.            Seniority in the relevant field of study will be the determining criterion for selection (applicable only to part-time PGCE courses).

b.            Courses will be run subject to satisfactory response in the different fields of study.

c.            The MIE reserves the right not to run courses in any one of the above-mentioned fields of study despite this advertisement.

 

Applications must be made on forms obtainable at the Reception Desk, Mauritius Institute of Education, Réduit, during office hours or may also be downloaded from MIE website http://www.mieonline.org
