The mission of the QAA is to safeguard the public interest in sound standards of higher education qualifications and to inform and encourage continuous improvement in the management of the quality of higher education.

It  works with higher education institutions to define academic standards and quality, and carry out and publish reviews against these standards.

Established in 1997, it is an independent body funded by subscriptions from UK universities and colleges of higher education, and through contracts with the main UK higher education funding bodies.


New Handbook for institutional audit in England and Northern Ireland now available
The new Handbook for institutional audit in England and Northern Ireland describes the revised process of institutional audit that will operate in higher education institutions for the cycle that extends from 2005-06 to 2010-11. It has been developed by QAA in partnership with the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Standing Conference of Principals and Universities UK.
